Reuters reported that India imported 1.4 million tonnes of coal from South Africa Richards Bay Coal Terminal in September up from 1.3 million in August.
India has been the biggest single buyer of South African coal throughout this year having taken 22% to 35% of monthly exports. India's absorption of around one third of South Africa exports has been the main reason prices in oversupplied Europe have not collapsed.
From January to end September India lifted 13 million tonnes of South African coal, 34% of the exports to date.
