Expressing concern over possible use of Goan waterways to export iron ore illegally extracted in Maharashtra, Goa chief minister Mr Digambar Kamat said that he will speak to his Maharashtra counterpart on the legality of iron ore coming to Goa for export.
Congress legislator Mr Dayanand Narvekar participating in the supplementary demands for grants during the assembly session said that there is moratorium by Maharashtra government on extraction of iron ore.
Mr Narvekar former revenue minister said that "There is a possibility that iron ore being brought from Sawantwadi in Maharashtra (near Goa) and loaded in the barges (ships) at Sirsaim in Goa, may have been extracted illegally.”
Mr Kamat said that since government cannot stop trucks from plying on its road, the state transport department has executed several measures to control the traffic.
