The Jakarta Post reported that Indonesian government expects to launch 3 new coal fired power plants under the 10,000 MW electricity crash program in December 2009.

Mr Darwin Zahedy Saleh minister of energy and mineral resources said that the 3 power plants are the 2x300 MW Labuan Power Plant, the first unit of the 300 MW Rembang Power Plant and the first unit of the 300 MW Indramayu Power Plant. He added that "The 3 power plants are expected to be completed and launched in December 2009."

He said that the second unit of the Rembang and the Indramayu power plants were expected to be completed in March 2010. He added that the government launched the 10,000 MW program in June 2006, in a bid to anticipate increasing growth of electricity need. The government is preparing to kick-off the second phase of the 10,000 MW program.

Indonesian government expects that 60% of the power plants in the second phase of the 10,000 project will be fired by renewable energy such as hydroelectricity and geothermal energy.
