It is reported that the re-launch of iron ore mining at the Casing mines in Angola is one of the factors that will make investments in reconstruction of the Mocamedes railroad a profitable venture.
Discussing the main steps taken by the local government over the last few years, Mr Isaac dos Anjos noted the importance of the Moçâmedes railroad to the re-launch of iron mining in Cassinga which has been at a halt since the 1970s.
The governor said “Starting at the Tchamutete line, CFM’s branch line will travel to Cunene province to meet the Namibian railroad in order to link the port of Walvis Bay to the port of Namibe."
Iron and manganese mining in the Cassinga mines, located in the Jamba municipality of Angola Huila province could begin in the next three years, with estimates pointing to over 5,000 jobs being created.
