
LKAB Norway AS has applied governor of modified discharge permit under the Pollution Act for cache and transport of ore and ore products in Narvik municipality.
The application is changing the production and emission factors for the facilities for unloading, storage and loading of iron ore and other mineral products after conversion of the units in Narvik.
LKAB Norway AS seeks to increase the maximum limit for handling of ore and ore products from 21 million tonnes per year in the current license dated January 18th 2011 to 30 million tonnes per year. They also seek an increase in the scope of management of olivine from 450,000 to 600,000 tonnes per year and quartzite from 150,000 to 165,000 tonnes per year in addition to handling up to 300,000 tonnes of limestone dolomite per year.
Planned production increase means maintaining a discharge line at Balo with associated conveyors and continued use of undercover ore stock Nk40 until new storage warehouse is built and put into use. The plan is to construct a new jetty 7 with utlaster, new term mission new transport and new transportation facilities for adding products.
The application explains the handling of unloading, storage and loading of iron ore, iron ore products and adding products and planned and implemented measures aimed at reducing emissions of dust and noise and emissions of process wastewater.
