As of October 1, 2011 LKAB has implemented a reorganization. Responsibility for logistics operations (planning, railways and harbors) has been transferred from Mining Division to Marketing and Logistics Division.

Mr Markus Petäjäniemi will now also assume responsibility for managing sales and marketing and all logistics operations from railway terminals at the production plants to final delivery to customers. His new title is Senior Vice President Marketing & Logistics Division. As previously, he reports directly to President and CEO Mr Lars-Eric Aaro.

Mr Lars-Eric Aaro said “In a world in which we are seeing increasingly rapid changes in the market, it is vital that we respond by making the necessary changes in the logistics system from processing plant to customers, I am convinced that the best way to realize that degree of flexibility is to fully integrate logistics and sales. The change will allow our Mining Division, our largest Division, to focus its efforts on production and the conditions for production. It is a matter of taking advantage of the market situation and working to achieve optimal production of our high-quality iron ore products at a time when we are able to sell everything we produce.”
