
MMX mining company of the EBX Group of Mr Eike Batista made the protocol of the Environmental Impact Assessment EIA and Environmental Impact Report RIMA in the State Environmental Institute INEA in the state of Rio de Janeiro, on the expansion the capacity of Southeast Superport to 100 million tonnes of iron ore per year.
Currently, the Southeast Superport is being built in Itagua, with a capacity of 50 million tonnes of iron ore per year.
The EIA-RIMA protocol is the first step in the environmental licensing of the capacity expansion of the enterprise.
The miner said in a statement “The strategic vision of the MMX on the importance of access to the Brazilian iron ore seaborne trade has led the company to begin the process of doubling capacity Superport Southeast. In addition, the expansion of Southeast Superport step of consolidating the position between the MMX mining of the Iron Quadrangle in Minas Gerais.”
According to the company, the production of the Southern System and partnerships with Usiminas and Minerinvest will fill the entire capacity of the first phase of Southeast Superport.
