Arrow Energy said that a gas fire burning on one of its properties on the western Darling Downs has nothing to do with its coal seam gas development.
The Queensland Fire and Rescue Service said that crews were called to Arrow's Daandine fields west of Dalby after receiving reports methane escaping from a hole in the ground had ignited and sparked a grass fire.
A spokeswoman says the grass fire was eventually put out and Arrow was left to bring the gas blaze under control.
The company says the methane is escaping from what appears to be an old coal mine and is not part of its CSG operations.
An Arrow spokesman says the fire is still burning but has been made secure and is no threat to property or surrounding bush land.
He says investigations are continuing into how the fire started.
