
Metso will supply Affärsverken i Karlskrona AB with a biomass boiler plant for combined heat and power production in the municipality of Karlskrona in Sweden.
The boiler plant including several auxiliary boilers will be delivered by the Metso Wärtsilä JV MW Power. Equipment related to environmental systems will be delivered by Metso’s Power business line.
The total value of the order is approximately EUR 30 million. The start up of the plant is scheduled for the Q1 of 2012. The order is included in Energy and Environmental Technology’s Q4 orders received.
The biomass boiler plant will utilize bubbling fluidized bed technology and will use wood chips as the main fuel. The plant will produce approximately 36 MW of district heat for the Karlskrona area and approximately 13 MW of electricity for the national grid. With the new plant, Affärsverken i Karlskrona will be able to fulfill the growing demand of district heat and increase the usage of biomass in heat and power generation.
The municipality owned company Affärsverken i Karlskrona is located in Karlskrona of South East Sweden. The company builds, develops and operates infrastructure to the 62 000 inhabitants of the municipality.
