Reuters reported that Mexico's Federal Electricity Commission power utility said that the low bidders in its latest coal tender included US Peabody Energy's Coal Trade unit, Mexico's Soluciones Petronavales and Spain's Prominer.
The lowest bids ranged from USD 98.5 per tonne to USD 111.5 per tonne.
The winners are due to be announced later.
State owned CFE has tendered for 6.24 million tonnes of coal to be delivered to Mexico's Pacific Coast between 2010 and 2012.
CFE is seeking two lots of minimum 6,200 kcal/kg coal totaling 4.81 million tonnes for delivery between 2010 and 2012, a 1.17 million tonne lot of minimum 5,900 kcal/kg coal for the same period, and 260,000 tonnes of minimum 6,300 kcal/kg coal for delivery in 2010.
The coal is all destined for the CFE's Petacalco plant in the southwestern Mexican state of Guerrero. Pricing will be linked to the API2 index, adjusted for quality.
CFE's last tender was awarded in April to RWE Trading, Glencore, Vitol, Noble Group and a local company at prices of USD 71 to USD 84 per tonne CIF.
