It is reported that hundreds of demonstrators jeered Premier Ms Anna Bligh at Community Cabinet public forum in Toowoomba on Queensland's Darling Downs.
As per report, residents of Gowrie Junction and Kingsthorpe joined hundreds of other anti mining protesters waving placards at meeting at a Toowoomba high school. Protesters are angry at the granting of a licence to explore for coal just outside Toowoomba's city boundaries.
Ms Bligh and her ministers were jeered "sack the weather girl".
Inside the school's auditorium, concerns about the coal and coal seam gas industries dominated the question and answer session.
One person said that "How do we live with that and then have this mine over the top of our heads."
Another resident, whose daughter has cystic fibrosis, told Ms Bligh the prospect of living near a mine is frightening. He said that "When can we get a straight answer and what's going on, because we are terrified for our daughter."
But Ms Bligh said the resources industry will not be allowed to expand at any cost. She said that "It needs to be balanced with strict environmental conditions."
She was also challenged about the rising cost of water and electricity.
