
Mount Gibson Iron Limited announced the appointment of highly experienced mining executive Mr Andrew Thomson as Chief Operating Officer of the Company, following a comprehensive Australian and international executive search. Mr Thomson will commence in the role on 18 September 2012, after completing his notice period with his current employer.
Mr Thomson has over 30 years experience in mining, engineering and asset management, including a number of senior operational and management positions with Citic Pacific Mining, BHP Billiton and Rio Tinto.
Mr Jim Beyer CEO of Mount Gibson said that “We are delighted to have someone with Andrew’s extensive hands-on experience join Mount Gibson as we prepare to build on our standing as one of Australia’s leading iron ore producers.”
Mr Thomson is currently Managing Director of Cape Preston Port Company which is working at Citic Pacific Mining’s Sino Iron magnetite project in the Pilbara. In this role, Mr Thomson has been responsible for developing Western Australia’s first trans-shipment port. Prior to leading CPPC, Mr Thomson was Citic Pacific Mining’s Deputy Director Operations for the Sino Iron project, and spent 14 years in the Pilbara iron ore industry with Rio Tinto in roles ranging from operations, support services, safety, environment and asset management to project management and project direction.
