It is reported that Queensland's richest man has joined forces with the Together Union to support the state's sacked public servants.

Mr Clive Palmer is donating USD 250,000 to create a so-called 'Hope Fund'.

The mining magnate who is a prominent Liberal National Party supporter says he is concerned about the impact of the State Government's job cuts.

Professor Palmer says axing thousands of jobs will do little to reduce Queensland's debt but the wider community will suffer.

The fund will provide funds for distress counselling and vocational training. It will be overseen by former National Party premier Mike Ahern and former Labor deputy Jim Elder.
