It is reported that the NSW Farmers Association wants landholders to get the right to veto applications for coal seam gas developments on their properties.
It's one of more than 32 recommendations to the state inquiry into the CSG industry which starts next week. The farm lobby also wants a moratorium on fracking to be extended an independent study into land values and a greater slice of mining royalties returned to regional areas.
Ms Fiona Simson NSW Farmers Association president said giving farmers the legal right to refuse access won't adversely affect the CSG industry. She said that "The whole point of this sort of recommendation is to even up the stakes a bit."
She added that "What it does promote is much better balanced development. It is not going to signal a death knell to the industry and it is going to signal much more balanced, transparent communication."
