It is reported that Serbian police recently arrested four more persons in connection to financial abuses at the Kolubara coal mining complex.

The suspects are owners of private companies from Belgrade, Lazarevac and Vreoci which rented equipment to the Kolubara strip mining complex.

They are suspected of having falsely claimed, in agreement with former Kolubara managers who have been arrested previously, that the machines were needed to perform work at the mine.

However, the equipment often idled while the suspects collected money from the state-run company. The value of the money taken in this way in the period between 2007 and 2009 is believed to be some EUR 2 million.

The latest arrests bring the number of detained suspects to 31.
