It is reported that Ningxia has prospective coal reserve of 202.9 billion tonnes and provenreserve 31 billion tonnes. Its Ningdong coal field, located by the Yellow River, covers an area of 3,500 square kilometers.

And a large scale of energy and chemical base has been planed by Ningxia province in this area, which combines coal exploitation, power and coking industries. This project has been listed among China's 13 00 million grade coal producing bases, and it will become a symbol of China's western development.
