Fitzroy River Coal Terminal said that it is hoping to build a coal terminal along the Fitzroy River asserting that the project is still viable despite the world economic crisis. It says its USD 400 million project would export coal via barges along the river, hoping to export 15 million tonnes of coal per year.
Mr Bob Stephens director of the project said that it’s innovative and cost effective. He added that "We have confidence not only in the Australia economy with its resources but also in China. While it may cut back in its requirements, the quality of coal that would be coming out of this operation is the type of coal that China will be looking for."
