Queensland Rail's USD 65 million upgrade of the West Moreton rail system has reached the Toowoomba district on the state's Darling Downs.
Mr Tim Ripper spokesman of QR said that it is changing the old timber and steel sleepers to concrete to accommodate coal trains traveling to mines at Jondaryan.
He said that extra mining activity has necessitated the upgrade. He added that "As the changes increase with the movement of coal to the Port of Brisbane down the older track structure struggles a little bit, certainly the new concrete structures provide us with far more reliable product."
