Renewafuel LLC, a subsidiary of Cliffs Natural Resources Inc, announced that it has entered into a MoU with FirstEnergy Generation Corporation, under which it will design, build and operate a biomass facility that will produce renewable energy cubes for FirstEnergy's RE Burger Plant.

The renewable energy cubes, when burned to produce electricity, result in a carbon neutral solution compared with burning fossil fuels such as thermal coal, natural gas or oil.

The RE Burger Plant employs 95 people. FirstEnergy Generation expects to use renewaFUEL's products in the plant's electricity generation process. The Burger Plant currently burns approximately 800,000 tons of thermal coal annually. Using renewaFUEL product in place of this coal would have the potential to eliminate 1.3 million tonnes of greenhouse gases per year, or the equivalent of removing an estimated 270,000 cars from the road.
