ABC reported that opponents of coal seam gas mining in the Gloucester Valley are planning a letterbox drop to all residents to counteract a mining company pitch.

The energy company AGL has been taking out advertisements in the local newspaper outlining how mining will benefit the local economy.

Barrington-Gloucester-Stroud Preservation Alliance spokesman Mr Steve Robinson says their newsletter will highlight how exploration and mining could hurt the local environment.

He said “I think it's necessary that the Alliance explain to the Gloucester and wider community why we see this development as being inappropriate for our valley. If you put 330 wells down the valley that consumes the whole valley with this sort of spiders web of wells. It greatly changes the whole look of the place.”

Mr Robinson said that their 2012 information campaign will put forward the other side of the argument.

He said “Mid Coast Water provides water for 75,000 people from the catchment area that this project is in. They weren't included in the initial planning stages. They still have a lot of misgivings. They would need to have satisfactory answers before they give it the tick of approval.”
