AAP reported that iron ore miner Fortescue Metals Group Limited has again called on the federal government to clarify details of the proposed new mining tax.
Mr Andrew Forrest CEO of FMG, one of the most vocal opponents to the tax, said that he has offered Prime Minister Ms Julia Gillard an invitation to an open discussion regarding the planned mineral resources rent tax.
He added that "In particular he hopes to discuss the MRRT's impact on Australia's reputation as an investment destination and the impact it will have on job creation. The invitation proposes discussions in any open forum acceptable to Ms Gillard."
A Fortescue spokesman told AAP that company executives had not met with Ms Gillard while she was in Perth. She added that the company would seek an audience with the prime minister before she departs to Brisbane.
