The head of Fortescue Metals, Mr Andrew Forrest, has appealed to South Australian mining and exploration companies to vote for economic responsibility in the federal election.
Mr Forrest visited Adelaide to express his concern about the government's mining tax regime. He stressed he was not asking companies to vote for the Coalition.
But he said that he believes South Australia's vast potential as a future mining state will go untapped under Labor's plans. He said that "Olympic Dam should be invested, should be expanded and there should be many other Olympic Dams found in the great state of SA.”
He added that "But the ability of companies to get up to find those resources, to spend money, relies on overseas capital markets, faith in Australia and that's been rocked to its core."
