The Federal Opposition said misunderstandings about the proposed mining tax have exposed cracks in the newly formed Gillard Government.
Mr Tony Windsor Independent MP said that he would like the mining tax to be on the agenda at a national tax summit.
The Government has agreed to hold a wide ranging summit as part of its deal with Mr Windsor and fellow independent Mr Rob Oakeshott.
Treasurer Mr Wayne Swan said that the forum would not consider the mining tax because it was already the subject of a lengthy consultation process. But he now says he is open to the idea being discussed at the summit. He said that if during that period or around that period we have a tax forum which talks about Henry, I'm sure there'll be many people who will want to discuss issues in Henry that we ruled out, they may want to discuss the draft legislation I'm relaxed about that.
Mr Joe Hockey opposition treasury spokesman said that divisions are already forming in the new government. The happy couple has not even left the chapel and they are arguing about the mining tax already. The prenuptial agreement will not last and what we are going to end up with is uncertainty and confusion.
