According to the Australian Prime Minister Ms Julia Gillard she can guarantee the proposed mining tax will stop at iron ore and coal and will not be extended to include other resources.
She said “One of her priorities is to discuss the new mining tax with junior miners. They are concerned the government may move to tax resources other than ore and coal if the government wins a second term.”
Ms Gillard says she can guarantee that that will not happen. She added that "If re elected we will then move to legislate the tax as it has been described, arising from the breakthrough agreement that I entered into with our biggest mining companies; that is the tax."
