It is reported that Sable Mining Africa Limited has identified multiple iron ore targets on its Timbo, Bopolu and Kpo iron ore projects in Liberia following a 13,260 line kilometer airborne geophysical survey.
Its iron ore assets in the country are located in the highly prospective West African Shield in Liberia, where a number of world class iron ore projects are currently being developed.
At Timbo, Sable has identified two exploration targets with combined strike length of 22 kilometres, four targets with combined 17 kilometres strike length at Bopolu and six targets with 57 kilometres combined strike length.
The company will now launch an exploration program consisting of a 12,000 metres, 34 hole, Phase 1 drilling program scheduled to commence in November 2011. Of the total, 25 holes for 8,000 metres are planned at Timbo North. Sable wants to refine the geological model and progress the project towards a potential maiden iron ore resource estimate in 2012.
The remaining nine holes for 4,000 metres are planned on Bopolu and Kpo with 2,000 metres on each licence to investigate the potential of the southernmost portion of the respective target areas.
Mr Andrew Groves CEO of Sable Mining Africa said "The sub-region of Liberia, Sierra Leone, Guinea and the Ivory Coast hosts several multi-billion tonne iron ore assets that are currently under exploration and development. Upon the completion of our exploration campaign, we are confident that our licenses will add to the list of world class assets in the region.”
Despite heavy rains, the road construction that commenced in late June 2011 to access the Timbo North project area has been completed. Work on the access to Timbo South is ongoing. Construction of the exploration camp is currently underway with completion expected in November 2011.
