Mr Julio Ortiz general secretary of union workers in a telephone interview with Reuters told that “We have suspended the strike for 24 days in the coming days should be sending the specifications claim to Lima where you will see the Ministry of Labour. That has led to suspend our measure with the hope that it will act impartially and based on the economic situation of the mining industry.”
He said that the work was resumed on Tuesday.
The stoppage at Shougang Hierro Peru had led the company to declare force majeure, as they relieve their contractual obligations on shipments of metal.
Workers seek an increase of PEN 8.50 to the basic daily wage, but the mining offers higher at PEN 1.50 soles. They also call for an equalization of wages, ranging between PEN 44 and PEN 65 a day.
Shougang Hierro Peru, which operates a mine in the southern region of Ica, last year produced 6.04 million tonnes of iron ore.
