
Iran Dailyt cited Mr Van Nieker head of South Africa's Steel Manufacturers and Exporters Association as saying that several South African companies announced readiness to take part in Iran's mining projects.
The issue was raised in a meeting between Mr Van Nieker and Mr Hassan Pelark head of Iranian Mines and Mining Industries Development and Renovation Organization in Tehran.
Mr Nieker said that huge mining projects are under implementation in Iran and South African companies are interested to take part in the projects within joint ventures with their Iranian counterparts. Iran and South Africa could establish joint companies to boost cooperation in mining sector.
Referring to the rare experiences of South African companies in exploration of underground mines and their interest in Iran's mining projects, the official said that the two sides could start cooperation after necessary reviews and discussions. He said that Iran despite mineral resources enjoys remarkable technical and engineering capabilities and equipments which could be useful in mining projects.
Mr Pelark welcomed expansion of ties between the 2 countries in various mining projects. Tehran has prioritized promotion of its economic and political ties with the African states and the country is now considered as one of the African Union's strategic partners.
Tehran's efforts to boost ties and cooperation with Africa have led to its acceptance as an observing member of the African Union where it has shown an active presence in the AU summit meetings.
