ABC reported that mining company BMA said the Queensland coal industry's reputation will be damaged by proposed week long strike action across Bowen Basin mines.
BMA spokesman Mr Steve Dumble said that the industry's reputation is only just recovering from supply issues caused by last summer's floods.
He said “I know from discussions that I've had with our customers that they're watching on closely. Our reputation for being a reliable supplier and our industry's reputation here in Queensland is not at its highest at the moment. Obviously further disruption is not only going to be watched closely but will impact that reputation.”
Last week, mass meetings of coal miners in central Queensland endorsed the action following a 15 month enterprise bargaining dispute.
