In recent days the Ministry of Industry and Trade headed by the Minister Mr Martin Kuba conducted intense negotiations with representatives of municipalities from the Beskydy area about prospecting of black coal deposits under the Beskydy Mountains. The outcome of the negotiations is an agreement to the effect that the modified text of the Raw Material Policy of the Czech Republic will not propose completion of the prospecting in the location.
Mr Martin Kuba minister of Industry and Trade of Czech Republic said that “The proposal of the Raw Material Policy of the Czech Republic, which has been modified based on an interdepartmental commenting procedure, considers the deposit Frenštát a national raw material reserve to be systematically protected. The utilization of the deposit is not anticipated within the time horizon of the proposed Raw Material Policy. From the viewpoint of the national Raw Material Policy the current priority is not to open new black coal mines but to maximize the service life of the currently used mining locations with the objective to provide metallurgical and energy industry with supplies of black coal on a long-term basis term and to maintain job opportunities connected with the use of this strategic raw material by the multiplication effect.”
