It is reported that Queensland Rail has awarded USD 126 million in train contracts to engineering firm UGL.
In a joint statement, the companies said UGL would supply 15 new 5020-class, C44ACHi diesel electric locomotives worth USD 93 and 160 stainless-steel bottom-dump wagons worth USD 34 million to QR National Coal for its haulage expansion in the Hunter Valley.
Mr Marcus McAuliffe executive general manger of QR coal said "The new-generation locomotives are based on the 5000-class locos operating in the Hunter Valley but with new technologies and increased power."
Work has already begun on the projects with delivery of the first locomotives in December and May 2011 and the freight wagons from April to support QR contracts with Peabody Energy and Felix Resources.
