AP reported that the United Mine Workers of America will meet with Patriot Coal miners in two states to discuss ramifications of the company's Chapter 11 bankruptcy.
Meetings are set for Tuesday morning at The Centre in Evansville, Ind and Thursday morning at the Charleston Civic Center.
President Mr Cecil Roberts will discuss potential impacts on workers and retirees and explain what the union is doing to try to protect them.
The bankruptcy affects 2,000 active miners about 1,500 of them in West Virginia and more than 10,000 retirees. Some 4,000 of them are also in West Virginia.
Earlier this month, a New York bankruptcy judge approved an USD 802 million financing package so St. Louis based Patriot can continue operating while it restructures. Patriot has 12 mining complexes in Appalachia and the Illinois Basin.
