According to Mr Viktor Yanukovych Ukrainian President, the coal industry needs to be modernized.

He said that "Our coal industry needs modernization that's the priority task of our government today."

He added that "People have been thinking for a long time that coal is an energy source of the past. Modern processes on the world energy market show that this is far from the truth. We have to settle difficult problems, problems that have been building up in the coal industry for years, and need to be tackled today."
