
According to data issued by the Ukrainian Association of Ore-dressing Enterprises, in the first two months of this year the Ukrainian steelmakers increased their imports of iron ore by 2.3 times to 613,600 tonnes while the Ukrainian mining companies raised their iron ore exports by 73% to 5.025 million tonnes both compared to the same period last year.
In January to February 2010, Ukraine imported 434,400 tonnes of iron ore concentrate up by 2.6 times YoY, 139,200 tonnes of sintered ore up 38%YoY and 40,000 tonnes of pellets, which was not imported during the same period last year. However, the Ukrainian steelmakers did not import agglomerate in the first two months of this year.
In February this year, Ukraine imported 327,500 tonnes of iron ore, including 237,200 tonnes of iron ore concentrate, 69,200 tonnes of sintered ore, and 21,100 tonnes of pellets. On the other hand, during the first two months of 2010, Ukraine exports of iron ore concentrate increased by 2.4 times YoY to 2.106 million tonnes, its exports of pellets went up by 20.3% to 1.631 million tonnes while its exports of sintered ore climbed by 41.9% to 967,100 tonnes. In addition, in January to February this year, Ukraine also shipped 320,900 tonnes of agglomerate, which was not exported during the same period last year.
In February 2010, Ukrainian mining companies exported 2.333 million of iron ore, including 944,600 tonnes of iron ore concentrate, 806,800 tonnes of pellets, 434,000 tonnes of sintered ore and 147,600 tonnes of agglomerate.
