It is reported that Vale Moçambique last week began the process of transferring coal from small boats to ships out at sea a first for the company and a solution for loading large ships at the port of Beira.

Cited by Mozambican newspaper Notícias, the statement from the Mozambican subsidiary of Brazilian company Vale also said that the Green Phoenix the fifth ship to export the company coal left the port Wednesday carrying 37,600 tons of coal headed for the port of New Mangalore, in India.

The statement said with this shipment, Vale has so far shipped 174,000 tons of coal mined at the Moatize mine through the port of Beira since it launched its operations in 2011. The transfer operation, made it possible not only to completely load some ships that cannot be entirely filled at the dock but also makes it possible to load bigger Panamax and Capesize ships which are unable to moor at the port of Beira because the access channel and berths are too shallow .
