Bloomberg reported that Johannesburg based Barloworld Ltd has received orders from Vale SA’s Mozambique operations for 10 Caterpillar Inc 797 mega trucks.
The trucks will be delivered in 2012 and 2013.
The 797 has a payload of 400 tonnes.
Mr Clive Thomson CEO of Barloworld Ltd said “Each truck is a business opportunity on its own.”
Mr Thomson said “During the 10 years we will continually service and supply new parts for the trucks.”
Priced at USD 40 million to USD 50 million each, the trucks will provide Barloworld, the world’s largest trader of forklifts, with income during their 10 year lifespan.
Currently in their second year, Vale’s Moatize and Riversdale coal projects in Mozambique have a 30- year lifespan, said Thomson.
