Mozambique News Agency reported that the Brazilian mining company Vale said it is investing in training train drivers in Mozambique to satisfy local demand in the railway sector.
According to a communiqué from the company, at least 125 workers have been trained in Tete and in the central port city of Beira.
It said “Apart from technical knowledge, the process goes through the instructions of norms and operational procedures.”
The first group was trained by the Mozambique publicly owned Ports and Railways Company.
Training Mozambicans is among the obligations of the Brazilian mining company, under an agreement it signed with the Maputo administration in 2010.
Vale is involved in the coal mining exploration in the northwestern Mozambican province of Tete. Vale has been using the Moatize in Tete to Sena railway line to export its coal to the outside world since August last year as it uses Beira port to export its coal from Tete.
