Vedanta to set up 1,980 MW thermal plant in Punjab

Vedanta Resources Group said its subsidiary Sterlite Energy would invest INR 10,000 crore to construct 1,980 MW thermal power project at Talwandi Sabo in Punjab.

Vedanta Resources in a statement said that "Sterlite Energy Ltd would construct 1,980 MW thermal power project at Talwandi Sabo in Punjab on build own and operate basis at an investment of INR 10,000 crore.”

The statement said that Talwandi Sabo Power Ltd, a special purpose vehicle of Punjab State Electricity Board created for the implementation of the project, has been acquired by Sterlite Energy. It is the largest coal-based thermal power plant in Punjab.

It said that the electricity generated by this thermal power plant would be procured by PSEB. The site of plant is located about 45 km from Bhatinda and about 220 kilometer from Chandigarh.
