It is reported that Vietnam has recorded a 13.2% fall in coal exports YoY for the first nine months of 2011.

Exporters are however enjoying a 3.2% increase in market price for their coal.

With 12.62 million tonnes of coal exported from Vietnam in the same period, it makes up 74.2% of the yearly, export target. The largest consumer of Vietnamese coal continues to be China purchasing 9.8 million tonnes.

The Vietnamese Department of Customs says it is planning to reduce overall coal exportation figures to just 3 million tonnes by 2015, to shore up domestic supplies. The recent increase in export tax on all coal is designed to stimulate this, by limiting outgoing fossil fuels.
