Western Cluster Limited announced the start of aeromagnetic surveys this week for the Bomi, Mano and Bea Mountains, the three concession areas in Western Liberia where the company will be conducting iron ore operations.
The surveys are intended to collect accurate data on the quality and quantity of ores as well as the geological formations of the three mountains through the use of modern and sophisticated airborne technologies.
It will be the first aeromagnetic survey conducted on those mines 44 years ago. The Liberian Government conducted the last surveys in 1967.
South Africa based Xcalibur Airborne Geophysics will conduct the two week surveys. The airborne surveys mark the company's start of exploration activities on the western cluster mines after the Liberian Government signed and ratified a USD 2.6 Billion Mineral Development Agreement on August 22, 2011 for a 25 year period.
Western Cluster Limited is a subsidiary of Sesa Goa Limited India's largest producer and exporter of iron ore in the private sector.
