Proactive Investors reported that Northern Territory iron ore developer Western Desert Resources has received initial assay results from drilling undertaken at Area E at Roper Bar iron ore JV project with Itochu.

Significant intersections of hematite mineralization were received. The best intersection was 14 meters at 59% Fe in drill hole RBRC214. Interestingly, intersections of near surface iron mineralization were found in both zones of Area “E”. The northern part of eastern zone contained the thickest widths of mineralization with 35 meters at 45%Fe from 8 meters in hole RBRC212 and 48 meters at 49.5%Fe from surface in hole RBRC214.

Mr Norm Gardner MD of Western Desert Resources said that these results are very pleasing coming from an area that we originally felt was not highly prospective. He said that this augured well for some other areas under cover within our tenements and opens up possibilities for blending and adding to DSO resources.

Area E consists of 2 distinct zones. An eastern zone where the Sherwin Ironstone Member strikes north south and dips moderately to the west drilling was carried out on east west lines 400 meters apart in this part.

The second southern zone is located in the south of the area and the SIM is flat to gently north dipping with an east west strike. Drilling was carried out on north south lines at a spacing of 1 kilometer except for the most western line which was spaced at 500 meters. The area being currently tested, still only represents about one tenth of a potential target area identified by geological mapping of in excess of 200 square kilometers.

This should offer investors food for thought. Roper Bar, located in the Northern Territory is located close to the Roper River and only 30 kilometers to the coast is shaping as an emerging iron ore region.
