A coal to gas project in Yili, Xinjiang invested by Qinghua Group is to begin operation in October, with an initial capacity 1.3 billion m3/yr, which is to increase to 5.5bn m3/yr by 2013.
The project marks the first of its kind in Xinjiang, and products will be piped to eastern China via the second West-East pipeline, as agreed by the company and PetroChina.
Yili is home to nine on-going coal-to-gas constructions, with a combined capacity 40bn m3/yr. As per local government’s plan, of Xinjiang’s total coal output of 400mt/yr by 2015, 87.5% will be converted locally, with coal-to-gas capacity to reach 60 billion m3/yr.
