It is reported that Xstrata Coal has lodged plans for a super pit, through the integration of four of its mines near Singleton.

The major project application under Part 3A of the NSW Planning Act covers the Ravensworth West, Narama and Cumnock Number One open cuts, as well as the Ravensworth underground mine.

It is for the development, operation and rehabilitation of an open-cut mine and includes the expansions and upgrade of the Ravensworth coal terminal and the Ravensworth coal handling and preparation plant.

Construction of mine site infrastructure is covered in the application for offices, a workshop, staff amenities, conveyors and coal handling stockpile areas. Off site Lemington Road will have to be realigned at Ravensworth and the intersection with the New England Highway upgraded.

Xstrata Coal is yet to comment on the value of the project and if it will mean more jobs.
