
The monthly commodities report of a leading bank said that zinc and copper are the best performing base metals, whose stock market prices have improved over the past 3 months.
The June 2009 review by NAB Group Economics said that strong imports by China and improved investor confidence are driving demand and pushing up prices.
However analyst Mr Ben Westmoreland warns although the recession may have bottomed out, the overall recovery will not happen quickly.
Mr Westmoreland said that "When you have globally reaching financial recessions like this one, if you look back over history it tends to be quite a slow recovery. That's just because there's a lot of caution about people taking on debt after these crises, especially given this one was invoked by a sort of debt crisis to start with."
He said that "So it really takes a while for confidence to come back into the market."
