Ukrainian steelmaker Alchevsk Iron and Steel Works plans to decrease slab shipments in May by 20% compared to April to 200,000 tonne to 205,000 tonnes.
This reduction in semi finished steel shipments is caused by rising demand for hot rolled flat steel. In April, the company decreased shipments of slabs by eight percent compared to March to 255,000 tonnes.
In May, Alchevsk plans to produce 110,000 tonnes of hot rolled flat steel, almost double the volume in April. In May the company plans to increase crude steel production by 12% compared to April to 340,000 tonnes. In January to April, Alchevsk produced more than 1.2 million tonnes of crude steel up four percent compared to the same period of last year.
