It is reported that in line with an agreement reached with the Kazakh government, the world largest steel producer ArcelorMittal has accepted to restart its project for the construction of a new 4 million tonnes capacity steel mill in Temirtau in the Karaganda region of Kazakhstan, where it operates its subsidiary ArcelorMittal Temirtau.

Accordingly, following ArcelorMittal agreement in principle to restart the project, the government of Kazakhstan has instructed the departments in charge to ensure the implementation of the project for the expansion of ArcelorMittal Temirtau capacities.

As SteelOrbis previously reported, the project for the construction of a new steel mill got underway in October 2008 however, due to the financial crisis it was suspended in August this year. The new mill is expected to boost the company annual production capacity to 10 million tonnes.
