The terminal will run at Ust-Lug commercial seaport launched in 2001. It will be used for transportation of steelworks for the pipeline construction. Steelworks will be transported by train first and then through the port. Environmentalists reported that the construction of terminal and its further operation won't have a large impact on nature.

The terminal will occupy the area of 37.1 hectares, 28.69 hectares of which is an alluvial territory. The timberland with dimensions of 5.15 hectares, which will be occupied by the terminal, is covered with low value species of trees such as alders and aspens. So, additional anthropogenic impact will not lead to fundamental changes in flora and fauna.

The construction of the first stage of the terminal in the commercial seaport of Ust-Lug, Leningrad region started in 2009. The project includes the construction of three deep water berths. The terminal will occupy 40 hectares which will enable transloading of more than four million tons of cargo and holding more than 300,000 tonnes of rolled metal annually.

The first phase of the terminal will be launched in 2012 the second one will be launched in 2013.
