Donetsk region to present alternative energy and energy saving projects in Japan

Interfax reported that the investment potential of Donetsk region will be presented during a visit by a mission of the Economic Development and Trade Ministry of Ukraine to Osaka, Japan on December 9th 12th 2012.

Mr Oleksandr Fomenko deputy head of Donetsk Regional State Administration said during a meeting with Ambassador of Japan to Ukraine Toichi Sakata that Donetsk region would present to potential investors projects in the field of alternative energy and energy saving.

Mr Serhiy Derhunov acting head of Donetsk Regional State Administration in turn informed the Japanese mission representatives about the investment and economic potential of the region. Donetsk region is interested in establishing trade and economic relations with various countries. At present trade between Donetsk region and Japan remains very low indicating the need to intensify the potential for growth in bilateral cooperation.

At the same time, he named an example of successful cooperation between the regional authorities and Japan. The project, to modernize the heating system in Horlivka, has been approved, and is being implemented under the Kyoto Protocol. The total cost of the project according to which modern Japanese heating equipment has to be supplied to a city with 300,000 residents, is estimated at UAH 440 million.

Mr Derhunov said that "I think that this 'green investment' will be the first step towards deepening our bilateral cooperation.”
