Evraz Oregon Steel Spiral Pipe said that it plans to lay off 130 workers.
Ms Kelly Brossart of Evraz Oregon Steel Spiral Pipe Mill said that the company is cutting jobs because of an unprecedented drop in demand for steel. She added that the layoffs will be effective immediately.
Ms Brossart said that the 130 layoffs account for about 13% of the company's Portland work force.
Based in Portland, Evraz has plants in 8 locations in the US and Canada. Its Oregon Steel Spiral Pipe Mill converts steel coils into pipes for natural gas and oil transmission lines and structural applications.
