EU quota utilization levels of Russia and Kazakhstan

It is reported that as of November 2nd 2009, Russia utilized 44.3% of the steel quota allocated to it by the European Union for the current year while Kazakhstan utilized 1.25% of its allocated EU quota of 205,000 tonnes.

According to the latest statistics, Russia exported a total of 1,377,077 tonnes of steel products to the EU in the period in question. The quota allocated to Russia for 2009 is 3,106,775 tonnes.

Specifically, Russia used 71.6% of its hot rolled coil quota significantly increasing its deliveries of the products in question to the EU, with deliveries rising by 16.65% in October alone. In addition, Russia utilized 22.84% of its plate quota, 38.77% of its alloy sheet quota and 23% of its wire rod quota.

On the other hand, in September Kazakhstan commenced its steel product exports to the EU for the current year, supplying a total of 2,558 tonnes of flat rolled products up to the end of October, excluding hot rolled coils and heavy plates using 2.17% of its allotted quota of 117,875 tonnes for flat rolled products.
