Interfax reported that gas supplies have been cut to Uzhhorod, western Ukraine following a gas explosion in which three people were injured and a cafe was damaged. Electricity and water supplies have been limited.
The Trans-Carpathian regional authorities have reported that "The emergency left Uzhhorod without gas. Almost 5,000 residents of the regional center have remained without electricity and water."
Electricity has also been cut to the railway, and railway services to the town of Volozyanka have been paralyzed.
One hundred and forty people have been evacuated from the streets near to the blast scene. Electricity supplies are expected to be restored within a day and gas supplies within a couple of days.
The gas explosion is believed to have been caused by pipeline damage by a firm which had been doing unpermitted work with underground electric power lines. The damage caused gas to leak into the air. A gas mixture also filled the sewerage system and wells of the electricity networks.
Reports said earlier that three people were injured in the accident, two of whom are now in intensive care, and one is at a burns department.
